Ripple had to get other projects working first. Brad Garlinghouse talked about this several times. Now that xRapid will reach release candidate status soon, they resumed working on Codius. Codius will not be finished soon, but the use-cases are there and derivates are only one of them.
And yes, it is a $1.2 quadrillion market. Which does not mean that XRPs market cap will be that large.
