Family event: brothers, mom, and friends gone swimming.
Diving down 35+ feet. Water temperature is about body temp, or a little more. A guy with his own separate family, and a Go-Pro video camera, catches what the eyes can't see as well. The guy in the red and blue boxers, the oldest of these diving brothers, is going head-first past the other two, and is the same one that drowns. (the same guy is now making this video post from his hospital bed) They had got many large rocks off the bottom, as a token proof they had made it all the way, but after doing this dozens of times, small stones were not an easy grab. Bigger ones, we figured, could be fetched with a team effort. We had done this many times before.. . but this one was apparently still too big. You see two lifting on the sides, and then sinking. Then they come up....one missing. The oldest brother was left holding the brunt of the weight over his head...There is about one minute in
time lapse between the two video cuts. During that time they first didn't notice who is missing, until the mom is yelling "this isn't funny, he is taking way too long." They saw a large bubble coming up later, and the second brother dives down to see whats going on. The cameraman resumes filming after diving down again, following a little. The 2nd brother finds his older brother face down, and grabs him by the right foot. He makes it half-way up and is assisted by two more brothers, and the camera man. The video ends with his head hitting a rock....CPR from brothers was successful after 1 minute. His faces was black and blue before sputtering water; blood, vomit, algae, etc. Ambulance rescue with paramedics arrive about 12 minutes after ward. He was successfully there intubated at the local hospital and life-flighted again. He is currently still alive, and on the mending at Provo Hospital. This video is meant for as and educational drowning-&-Rescue scenario. We still want people to visit and enjoy these amazing hot springs.
The dive/ drowning time was a little over three minutes, and another minute to resuscitate when on land, totaling in four minutes with no air. 10/17/2014
