The hymn is chanted in First mode, in manner called « chronos kalophonikos ». This is a bit sensual, for it uses smooth attacks and many equal temporal divisions, and it is for this reason that it is utilised only AFTER the end of some religious ceremony.
My interpretation was limited to 5 minutes, and I was therefore obliged to "cut off" some concluding beats from various measures (in other words, there is a concession made in terms of rhythm), to abbreviate musical lines by removing entire beats, or to even accelerate tempo a bit in others. All this is well known to be done in "Eleutheros Chronos" but also in many other occasions, as is related by Angelos Boudouris concerning Patriarchal chanting during his time.
Note: Interval stability is quite difficult when chanting in a language (in this case French) other than that of one's psaltic instruction (Greek).
I chant according to what I have learned from many masters, the main one being Stylianos Tsolakidis (+1987), student of Iakovos Nafpliotis (1864-1942), the Greatest ever psaltis to have been recorded.
I DESPISE contemporary church and even folklore music as it has evolved in the Orthodox world, given that many people with talented voices perform WITHOUT appropriate knowledge/training of Traditional psaltiki, and with a unique concern of becoming superstars, which most have achieved at the expense of this Holy tradition.
In this chant I try using vocalizations that also appear in paleographic Gregorian chant (please view other videos with Gregorian chant).
